Kindly invited to the After the Party: Demystification of Love Guided Tour, on Thursday, 28 November at 6 p.m. in Alkatraz Gallery, with Borut Savski and Francisco Tomsich, accompanied by Ana Grobler and Sebastian Krawczyk.
"Demystification of Love" was the title of a series of performances/lectures carried out in 2004 in Kapelica Gallery (Ljubljana) by Aljoša Kolenc. It came to mind after a discussion between Savski and Tomsich one year ago about the nature of art and the impulses behind insistence in art practice, from which the highly-burdened words "Love" and "Truth" arose. These two concepts, of an almost religious character, demand a sober, demystifying approach. In this guided tour through the After the Party's ecosystem of sound and moving images, the authors, accompanied by the exhibition's curators, will offer a conversational dissection of the exhibition's devices, telling and analyzing its ingredients and the reasons why they were mixed together, as well as the effects on the public that the authors want, hope or anticipate to achieve. Demystification, then, means to create carefully and consensually a path into the exhibition's internal core, where instances of love and truth may also be found.
One of the meanings of demystification is “to remove irrationality” which in curators eyes represents the need to introduce and acknowledge the work part in artwork. Not to oppose much needed concepts rooted in the spirit, we see the need to talk about labour within art as a reverse part of the same coin: the debate about the deeper meanings of the exhibition will include high-flying concepts, although grounded in the reality of art.
