skupinska razstava Underground and Above the Clouds – Stripburger’s Damn Good 18…

21 September 2010 21:00

Stripburger's editorial board is opening the gala program celebrating the magazine's coming of age with the exhibition in Vžigalica gallery, showing the dimensions of the comics medium.

Directed by Andrej Štular, Stripburger will display a segment of its editorial activities as well as some relics that these activities left behind. It will present a special edition titled »Ljubilejnik – Stripburger's Chronological Almanac«, hand-printed on prehistoric machinery and marked by the smell of authors' (=printers') sweat. Bitter confessions concerning the magazine in question are related by Domen Finžgar, Andrej Štular, Kaja Avberšek, Marko Kociper, Koco, Jakob Klemenčič, Gašper Rus, Matej Lavrenčič, Matej de Cecco, David Krančan and printed in a limited edition of 70 copies.

The rainbow of activities pursued by the noise-comix cult collective Le Dernier Cri (FR, 1993) includes, among other things, publishing – in masterfully produced limited editions – silkscreened books and posters. Apart from things to hold in hands and read (or just look at), a selection of posters by an international selection of artists (Kapreles, Matti Hagelberg, M. S. Bastian, Caroline Sury, Henriette Valium, Ota Keiti, LAG, Kerozen, Olaf Ladusse, Moulinex, Nuvish, Stu Mead, Pakito, Remi, Matt Konture, Mike Diana, Atak, Corona, Leo ...) will be shown.

Gunnar Lundkvist (SE, 1958), author of the minimalist Klass Katt comics (1979-) also illustrated several children's books and even wrote two poetry collections. Vertigo, an exhibition created together with the Swiss Helge Reumann, received quite a bit of praise.

Marcel Ruijters (NL, 1966) is a cartoonist, illustrator, comic critic and editor. After the Troglodytes (in several books), his next step is the world of medieval nuns. Before the next series of these holy women's adventures (unveiled in Ljubljana for the first time!), he did, for a break, a book on serial killers and their respective cars titled »Roadkill«.

Matthias Lehmann (FR, 1978) is a painter, illustrator, cartoonist and musician. His two comic chef-d'oeuvres are Les Larmes d'Ezechiel (2009) and HWY115 (orig. l'Etouffeur de la RN115, 2006). The American edition of the latter was nominated for the Eisner award in 2007.

Max Andersson (SE, 1962) is an extraordinary creator of fantasy worlds and at the same time an insightful observer of contemporary society and arts, armed with subtle sense of humour. His comic masterpiece, Pixy (1992), was translated to Slovenian in (2006). This time around, he'll exhibit works related to the Car Boys, including toys for kids and grown-ups created in collaboration with Helena Ahonen, a Swedish designer.

Galerija Vžigalica, 22. 09. 2010, 18.00
