Kindly invited to the celebration of vernal equinox with the opening of the exhibition, concert & storytelling, part of "Freedoms" event, presented by AAI art collective, Mirko Malle & Peter Ciuha & friends of the collective. The event starts on 21st March at 6pm in the Alkatraz Gallery, continuing at the Linden of Colloquies and further on at Celica Hostel. Approximate duration: 4 hours.
On the final day of the exhibition (16th April) you are welcome to visit us between 10am and 12am.
The exhibition at the Alkatraz Gallery is divided into two parts; in the first part we shall follow the artworks of the Articulation Artistica International (A.A.I.) international collective. The second part presents a painterly-musical concept of colour conducting by Mirko Malle, a member of A.A.I, artworks of Peter Ciuha nad paintings of Tine Škrlj-Jakomin. The opening of the exhibition at the Alkatraz Gallery is part of a more extensive programme of the collective who shall organize a celebration of the vernal equinox on the day of the opening. It will be an event comprised of a multitude of artistic expressions. It will start at the Alkatraz Gallery, and continue at the Linden of Colloquies, at the Museum Square, and further on at the Celica Hostel. The programme at these venues will be continuously going during the entire time of the celebration, and will last for about four hours.
The A.A.I. group was founded in 2009 upon the initiative of poets from South America, with the aspiration for a more extended dialogue and a literal exchange of poetry, philosophy, and art. The texts of the A.A.I. are mostly shown in a dialogue with music, performative and visual arts, and represent a common effort of the entire collective. The artists present their poetry live as well, together with the music and screenings of authorial images, video, and international on-line conference connections among the members, who join in these artistic events with reading, music or gesture. Their events are spontaneous, and the group of artists there present in one way or another, creates a multi-layered artefact that is changing in front of the eyes of the viewers at every moment.
The method of work of the A.A.I. collective is related to the ideals, well known to the ACC Metelkova City. The A.A.I. is an art collective who through classical painterly medium, poetry, and performance approaches the formation of an integral artwork. The creators function as a collective, in which each artist creates with the aid of one’s own medium (music, poetry, painting, …). The essence of the A.A.I. artists is therefore collectivism (1), putting at the first place the model of collective work as a whole. The history of the Autonomous Cultural Centre of Metelkova City shows that similar motivation is the core of its creative essence. The tradition of collaboration among the authors from different fields reaches back to the very beginning of the story of the Network for Metelkova that was created as a uniform front of individuals and organizations, representing a wide spectrum of the cultural space as it were at the time. A spontaneous festival of events at the time of the occupation in 1993 was marked by the intertwining of various artistic media. Even in the darkest days - of no electricity or water - the Metelkova inter-branchy collaboration (2) proved as one of the best solutions for the organization of community, which at the same time represents the state of its spirit. This has generated collaborations, like in the case of the group of Fiery Sculptors (connecting art, dance and music), ballet performances, and interdisciplinary festivals, who joined versatile authors. The integral artefact of Metelkova, as defined by Saša Nabergoj (3) is Metelkova par exellence. The projects like the exhibition of the A.A.I. collective represent the continuation of such traditions within the ACC Metelkova City, and add a deeper meaning and sense to it, and bring back freshness to the memories from its beginnings.
This is where the painterly installation of Mirko Malle integrates into: The Harmony of Spheres, combining visual art with music. On the basis of the method of musical graphics, a pedagogical method in art classes at some primary schools in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century, researching the drawing and painting as well as visual forms, expressing musical happening, has Mirko Malle designed his authorial concept of colour conducting. He sees it as an enlivenment of the painting as a medium, in this way exceeding the barriers of traditional understanding of visual creation. The connection of musical graphics with a colour piano is his concept of visualization of music. It’s a picture that is, at the same time, a light-colour-musical animation. With the demonstration of the moving of visual art and the impressions of light emission, upgraded by addition of light bodies and mathematically determined musical relations the author is trying to attain harmoniousness among the colours and the basic visual conception. He sources from the antique philosophy of Pythagoreans, who opined that music directly influences a human being, and therefore possesses the capacity to influence one’s soul as well. The Pythagorean philosophy teaches that everything in the universe possesses the quality of emission of sounds, vibrations or tones (the harmony of spheres). Pythagoras realized that musical relations can be mathematically determined (4). Peter Ciuha has created a computer programme that determines these relations and calculates their colours. Mirko Malle has transformed them into images and an interested installation exhibited at the Alkatraz Gallery.
