Neven Korda / Return

05 July 2011 > 19 July 2011 You are cordially invited to the exhibition opening and guided tour with the artist at 9 pm at Alkatraz Gallery, Metelkova Mesto. You are also invited to attend the artist's performance which will take place at 10:30 pm and will be directly broadcasted by Radio Študent within the Open radio experimental platform RADAR.

The objective of the installation entitled RETURN is to disassemble the idea of video to its physical realities like the capture of pieces of light information, their transformation into electrical signal, manipulation with concrete forms of video signal and the return into the light information. Electronic picture can be watched with devices showing it ‘on itself’, so that the picture itself is beaming the light towards the spectator, or with devices emitting the light and making us recognize the picture in the reflection from the screen. The formal creator of such space is not the physical volume, but the light visible in the air, screens and the light-reflecting objects. The ambience of the RETURN emphases the colour and shape as its primary components.

In the ambient interactive installation of the artist the space of Alkatraz Gallery will become unstable, packed with reflections of light, spinning light sources and reflective surfaces. Entering the space composed of moving light beams and shadows, the spectator will – with his or her corporeality - immediately become one of the key parts of the entire installation, and, simultaneously, its result.

The aim of Neven Korda is to spontaneously incorporate the visitor into the global metaphor of the video, thus representing or realizing the facts found in the definitions concerning the video that are more difficult to understand or imagine. At this point the construction of the video installation RETURN nears one of its fundamental objectives – the notion of the beautiful. In this aspect it acts in the direction of demystification of contemporary technological arts and practices. „Instead of critique and pragmatism there is - revealing in front of us - the beauty, unfortunately considered too vague undefined/undistinguishable and conditioned with ideological viewing. However, the poetics and beauty are the effects enabling us to express something that is too complex. Beauty is something that can be measured objectively and subjectively. At the moment when we perceive and determine it, it is always subjective, linked to pleasure, warmness, inner feelings/sensation, passion, and is a kind of sublimation.“  1

The artist says that evenly distributed and programmed repetitive motion along the same or   interrupted way produces a great many of transformations, beautiful and/or descriptive moments in functional structures. This collage of contemporaneity is already at its “pre-captured” actuality that equals viewer’s look at the installed objects – hallucinatory in its motion. With the abundance of transformations in the field of auto-poetics it provokes, stimulates, deconstructs and parodies contemporary identity, its supportive discourses and ideologies. His ambient sustains dichotomy: analysis of reality – enjoyment in reality.
