As part of this year's 11th Reciklart (international art festival of recycling and DIY culture), we will for the first time host an art colony for art students from universities in Slovenia and Serbia. The first part will take place in Ljubljana, followed by an exchange in Novi Sad. In the days leading up to the festival, under the guidance of mentors from Slovenia and Serbia, the participants worked on this year's festival theme – 'electronic waste'. They had the opportunity to explore materials that are familiar to all of us, but after their expiry date and intense wear and tear, we don't really know what to do with them. The participants were able to question in depth what a creative recycling of electronics would look like, and the workshop created a great opportunity to fuse new knowledge with previous knowledge as well as forge a space for what was presented a challenge in the field of their own creativity, intertwined with social engagement. The resulting works are thus presented and can be viewed in a group exhibition at the Alkatraz Gallery, which is reserved for Reciklart festival every August. Usually, we would say something more about the individual works in the text accompanying the exhibition, but this time the interpretation and the unique view of the artworks is open and left to the viewers themselves, because while writing the text, we did not know where inspiration and learning would take the participants.

In addition to work done in Ljubljana, the exhibition will also move to Novi Sad to the SKC NS (Student Cultural Centre Novi Sad); moreover, during the colony, the participants have also created a group work of art that will be donated to the AKC Metelkova mesto community.

The aim of the colony is also (cross-border) networking of visual arts students through collaboration and socialising in the context of exploring socially engaged themes that have long transcended the confines of countries and small communities and require a broader engagement, which can also be addressed through projects such as this colony and exhibition, albeit on a small scale.

Aleksandar Božić (BA Graphic Design, Prof. of Fine Arts, Academy of Arts in Novi Sad) returned to the field of art and culture after 15 years of working in the field of digital product design. As a visual artist, he explores the media of classical and digital drawing, screen printing and lithography, which has so far introduced him to the Slovenian and Croatian public. In the last two years, he has participated as a designer in several projects and festivals in Slovenia and Serbia. Under the name Kunstleraj (ex. Ustvarjallajalla) he runs art workshops and organizes exhibitions, mainly in the premises of Jalla Jalla AKC Metelkova mesto, but also in other spaces in Metelkova, Ljubljana and festivals around Slovenia.

Dragana Dubljević from Novi Sad identifies herself as a non-institutional artist and re-designer. She has been working and researching in the field of recycling for many years, and has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including in Ljubljana, in Jalla Jalla last November. She is the person behind Lavirint art, a brand based on the reuse of vintage textiles and based on a zero-waste philosophy.
