In 2001, on the occasion of the revamped 24th Graphic Arts Biennial Breda Škrjanec wrote: “I am joining those who claim that what is essential in the graphic arts is not multiplication nor originality. The essential lies in the dual existence of the graphic work, meaning that the graphic arts are that which has two opposite sides of existence: the negative and positive.” We’ll be talking to Lilijana Stepančič, co-curator of this year's biennial, about what the 27th biennial edition has to offer and how this year’s curatorial team understands the notion of the graphic arts.
