Anna Linder: Spermwhore

08 October 2017 > 15 October 2017 Kindly invited to the opening of "Spermwhore" film installation by Anna Linder, on Sunday, 8th October at 7 pm, at the Alkatraz Gallery, ACC Metelkova. The project is a part of 23rd International Festival of Contemporary Art City of Women. The exhibition is on display also on Saturday, 14. 10 and Sunday, 15. 10 (opening times: 3 pm - 11 pm).

Experimental film about unwanted childlessness in a world where normative heterosexual relationships dictate who can become parents and in what way. When it comes to reproduction, our merciless bodies reduce us to merely a set sex or given gender. But the longing for children is not limited to our bodies, and the possibility of pregnancy can be gifted, shared and undertaken together.

The author on the project: “The darkness is about being able to focus on our bodies and our body parts, while providing the necessary intimacy required for the film. Nakedness without exhibitionism. Bodies without ownership. Body parts belonging to a large family body instead of individuals. The idea of filming loose body parts, both incoherent, disconnected from each other and intertwined, felt important for the film. Important for us. Important for the notion of the family. That there are many who belong in different ways. I knew early on that the film would be very dark, with inconsistent and moving light, and would by all means be filmed in Super 8. These three distinct starting points formed the basis of the film project in 2011.”

Opening talk will be held by Anna Linder and Jasmina Šepetavc.

Anna Linder is an active feminist, artist, curator, producer, and works primarily in the field of moving images. Her work has been shown all over the world, including the ICA London, Modern Museum in Stockholm, Tribeca Film Festival in N.Y, IFFR Rotterdam, Images Festival Toronto, Edinburgh Int. Film Festival, Arsenal Experimental in Berlin. In 2012, she completed her Master of Fine Arts in Film at the University of Gothenburg. During the years 2004–2012, she worked as a curator and producer at Filmform, The Art Film & Video Archive in Stockholm. Recently, Linder finished her research on the subject of Queer Moving Images at the Valand Academy in Gothenburg. She was born and raised in Storuman, southern Lapland. www.annalinder.se

Jasmina Šepetavc is a film critic. She is completing her PhD in Gender Studies at the University of Ljubljana. Her study interests include film theory, feminism and queer studies. In addition to writing about film, she also writes about LGBTIQ topics and feminism for various publications. She was a long-time editor of the Slovene critical and artistic project/journal Tribuna and is a regular selector for the LGBT Film Festival Ljubljana.
